What is recidivism?
The rate at which one returns to criminal behavior & is measured by criminal acts that lead to rearrest, reconviction, or return to prison (Durose, Cooper, and Snyder, 2014)
Some of the factors that can lead to the recidivism of an individual include socio-economic status, effectiveness of parole officer supervision, how long the individual has spent incarcerated, and the educational level of the individual, among several other contributors (Esperian, 2010)
Why is there a rising recidivism rate in the United States?
Lack of inmate education
Inadequate pre-release programs
Lack of rehabilitation programs
